Protect your family's records

Learning Ledger keeps records on your device. We do not have a server copy and cannot recover a lost device's records for you. Updates are designed to preserve existing records, but a separate, current backup is important.

• Use the app's Backup & Recovery tools to export a full backup. Save it somewhere outside Learning Ledger, such as a location you choose in Files, or share it to yourself.
• A backup file includes records and attached work samples. Optional password protection helps protect the exported file. Keep the password separately; we cannot reset it.
• Keep more than one dated backup, and verify that your saved file is readable and can be restored before relying on it.
• Local recovery points stay on the same device. They are not protection against a lost phone or removal of app storage.

Do not delete the app to troubleshoot a problem before saving and checking your backup. Automatic Learning Ledger cloud backup and cross-device synchronization are not enabled in the current version.

Backups and printable records are different

A JSON backup is for restoring information into Learning Ledger. It is not a report designed to be printed. Keep it even if your email app cannot preview it.

For readable paperwork, use the app's report and portfolio tools. Choose the child, school year, and report you need, then use the available print or share options. Printer and PDF options depend on your device and installed apps.

Restoring a saved backup

Open Backup & Recovery and choose the saved file. Review the preview and warnings before confirming. Restoring can replace current records; export your current ledger first if you need to preserve it. A password-protected backup requires its original password.

If a file is rejected, keep the original unchanged. Contact support with the error message and app version, without attaching children's records. If possible, use a separate device with fictional records to practice the backup and restore process.

Using more than one device

Each installation has its own local ledger. Records do not automatically merge or synchronize between devices. A backup can transfer records, but it is not live synchronization. Avoid editing different copies of the same family ledger unless you have a clear plan for which copy to keep.

Optional calendar access

Calendar tools use calendars already configured on your device and require your permission. Review each event before exporting or updating it. This does not automatically synchronize grades, photos, or academic records. You can revoke access in your device settings.

Homeschool requirements

Parents and guardians are responsible for checking the laws and record-keeping requirements that apply to their family. Reports and transcripts contain the information you enter; Learning Ledger does not provide accreditation or guarantee acceptance by a school or authority.
